How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter your room's length and width, or type in your total square footage if you already have it.
  2. Select laminate, luxury vinyl, carpet, hardwood, or tile from the flooring type list.
  3. Leave the waste allowance at 10 percent for most rectangular rooms, or bump it up for spaces with closets, stairs, or angled walls.
  4. Review your estimated material needed and installed cost range.

If your project covers more than one room, run the calculator for each room separately and add the totals together.

Example

A 16 ft × 13 ft bedroom is 208 sq ft. At a 10 percent waste allowance, that's 228.8 sq ft of material to buy.

Laminate installs at $6–12 per sq ft. That works out to an estimated 1,248–2,496 dollars for this room.

Chicago Flooring Installation Cost by Material

These ranges include materials and installation labor. They reflect finished projects across Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Palatine, and Hoffman Estates.

What Changes Your Total Cost

What This Estimate Does and Doesn't Include

This calculator gives you a planning number based on square footage, material type, and a standard waste allowance. It does not account for your specific subfloor condition, stairs, transitions, or a floor plan with unusual angles.
A Simple Flooring estimator checks all of that in person before writing a final quote. Old flooring removal is already factored into every price range shown here, since Simple Flooring does not bill separately for hauling away your old floor.
