TrafficMaster Allure has gained popularity as a budget-friendly option for vinyl flooring, available exclusively at Home Depot. With prices significantly lower than premium brands, it’s an attractive choice for cost-conscious homeowners. But does it live up to the hype?

With over 50 years of experience as vinyl flooring installers, we’ve worked with countless Allure products. In this review, we’ll give you the facts about its durability, ease of installation, and long-term performance — helping you decide if it’s the right fit for your space.

Allure Flooring Categories

The Allure flooring range is divided into two distinct style categories: luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and luxury vinyl plank (LVP).

The distinguishing factor is that LVT mimics the appearance of stone, while LVP replicates the look of wood.

Within the Allure flooring style types, three grades exist: Allure, Allure Plus, and Allure Ultra.

The grade variation mainly pertains to the wear layer, with Allure Ultra boasting a substantial 12 mil wear layer, ensuring enhanced durability.

Allure Type Wear Layer Best For Price Range*
Allure 4 mil Light traffic areas $1.79-2.49/sq ft
Allure Plus 6 mil Moderate foot traffic $2.49-3.29/sq ft
Allure Ultra 12 mil High-traffic environments $3.29-4.19/sq ft

Allure Flooring Composition

TrafficMaster Allure employs a laminate vinyl flooring construction, consisting of several layers:

  • Base Layer: Rigid solid vinyl forms the foundation for planks and tiles.
  • Image Layer: This decorative layer mimics the appearance of wood, ceramic tile, or stone, with textured detailing for authenticity.
  • Wear Layer: A commercial-grade wear layer with ceramic bead overlay resists scratches and dulling.

Advantages of Allure Flooring

  • Affordability: With costs below leading brands, it’s a budget-friendly option for updating your floors.
  • Appealing Styles: The range captures the aesthetics of genuine wood and stone flooring, offering a plethora of design choices.
  • Easy Installation: It’s a DIY-friendly choice when following proper instructions.
  • Versatile Installation: Suitable for various levels and subfloor types, including radiant heat flooring.
  • Water Resistance: Ideal for moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Low Maintenance: Routine care is straightforward and hassle-free.
  • Commercial Wear Layer: Allure Ultra’s 12 mil wear layer ensures longevity.
  • Low VOCs: Certified for low volatile organic compound content, making it eco-friendly.

Allure Flooring Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the longevity of your flooring.

Make sure to bring the flooring boxes indoors at least 2 days before installing.

This gives the material time to adjust to room temperature, preventing problems with expansion or contraction after installation.

Here are some essential tips:

  1. Starter Wall Selection: Decide which wall to start from, considering the room layout.
  2. Spacing: Use quarter-inch spacers between planks and walls for all Allure products.
  3. Installation Techniques: Follow distinct installation methods for Allure and Allure Plus vs. Allure Ultra, utilizing Grip Strip and interlocking edges respectively.

Ensure a smooth installation process with these essential requirements:

  • Fill Grout Lines: For grout lines wider than ¼”, fill them to prevent later visibility.
  • Moisture Control: Place a vapor barrier over concrete subfloors with a moisture content exceeding 5%.
  • Timely Adjustments: Adjust Grip Strip pieces promptly for a seamless fit within 10-15 minutes.

Allure Flooring Cleaning and Maintenance

To keep your Traffic Master Allure flooring looking its best, follow these cleaning and maintenance practices:

  • Regular Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum as needed, using a vacuum designed for hard flooring.
  • Use a damp mop for general cleaning and a sponge with dish detergent for tough stains.
  • Avoid using abrasive tools or cleaners to prevent damage.

Limitations and Things to Know

While TrafficMaster Allure offers affordability, it has its limitations. The 4-mil wear layer on standard Allure products isn’t designed for heavy foot traffic, and it’s not suitable for stairs due to its floating installation method. Additionally, Allure performs best in temperature-controlled rooms to prevent warping or buckling.
